New Delhi: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan detailed the achievements of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Rural, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing housing for all. Speaking at a press briefing, Chouhan highlighted the milestones achieved in the last decade and outlined ambitious plans for the future.
“In the last 10 years, 3.54 crore houses have been allotted under PM Awas Yojana in the rural area. Till March 2024, 2.86 crore houses have been completed against the target of 2.95 crores. The pending 77 lakhs have also been completed,” he said, emphasizing the program's efficiency and success.
Chouhan noted a significant improvement in the speed of construction under the scheme. “10,000 houses are being built every day. Earlier, it used to take 314 days to complete a house, but now it takes only 114 days,” he added.
Looking ahead, the Union Minister outlined the government’s plan to build 2 crore more houses in the next five years, with a budget of Rs. 3.06 lakh crore. The goal underscores the government's focus on addressing rural housing needs comprehensively.
