Bhopal: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday attended the 12th Convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, where he highlighted India’s enduring tradition of knowledge and learning.
Addressing graduating students, Chouhan underscored the role of education in shaping both individual futures and the nation’s progress. “It is through knowledge that immortality is attained, and that is our inspiration,” he said, adding that India’s strength lies in its intellectual and cultural heritage.
He described India as a civilisation that has contributed to global learning for centuries. “India is not a nation of today, but a thousand-year-old civilisation. At a time when the world was shrouded in darkness, this land had already ushered in the light of knowledge,” he remarked.
Chouhan encouraged students to draw inspiration from this legacy while using science and innovation to address contemporary challenges. He also noted that institutions like IISER Bhopal are central to advancing research and nurturing talent that can help India strengthen its position in the global knowledge economy.
