New Delhi: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his absence at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Surya Kant. The event, considered a key constitutional occasion, witnessed the presence of senior leaders and dignitaries, while Gandhi’s absence drew strong political reactions.
Poonawalla alleged that the Congress MP consistently prioritises personal engagements over constitutional responsibilities. “He gives more importance to family dynasty than to the constitutional system,” he said, accusing the Congress leadership of engaging in rhetoric about safeguarding the Constitution while ignoring key constitutional events.
“They talk about the Constitution, but whenever there is a constitutional program, they choose to boycott it,” Poonawalla remarked. He further criticised Gandhi’s recent public appearances and travel schedule, saying, “Rahul Gandhi ji remains busy with jungle safaris, parties, and foreign tours.”
