Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has shared his views on two key legislative issues currently under discussion—the proposed bill seeking removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers facing serious criminal charges, and the ongoing debate on online gaming regulations.

On the bill concerning public officials charged with serious crimes, Tharoor noted that holding high constitutional and political office comes with responsibility and accountability. While stating that he had not yet examined the details of the proposed legislation, he remarked that on principle, it is reasonable to expect that anyone found guilty of serious wrongdoing should not continue in such positions. The measure, he suggested, underscores the importance of upholding the integrity of democratic institutions.

Turning to the matter of online gaming, Tharoor reiterated his long-held position that regulation and taxation, rather than prohibition, would be the most effective approach. He argued that banning online gaming risks driving the activity underground, potentially creating opportunities for illegal networks to profit. According to him, a regulated framework would bring transparency, protect players, and generate revenue for the government.
