Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala | Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday urged restraint and cautioned against premature conclusions over the recent incident referenced by JKNC Chief Farooq Abdullah. He emphasised that the investigation was still underway and that “it is not right for us to speculate on the outcome of the investigation.”

Tharoor highlighted that terrorism has remained a persistent challenge for India for more than three decades. Tracing its roots to the Kashmir insurgency of 1989–90, he noted how the threat expanded over the years to major cities such as Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. This, he said, underscores the need for constant vigilance and stronger preventive mechanisms.

Laying out what he described as two primary objectives, Tharoor said the first priority must always be public safety. The next step, he added, is a comprehensive investigation to determine who carried out the attack, who supported them and what their motives were. “We must also ask how we can prevent this kind of thing from happening again and what measures we need to strengthen,” he said.

He reiterated that terrorism must be dealt with “firmly and effectively” but cautioned that national development should not take a back seat. “Not everything can be reduced to war and peace,” Tharoor said, stressing that India must continue pursuing progress while addressing security threats with seriousness and clarity.
