CongressMP Shashi Tharoor has criticized Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) for its decision to remove Thiruvananthapuram as an entrance exam centre, calling the move unjustified and unfair to students from South India.
"I am disappointed by the decision of Jamia Millia Islamia to cancel the only examination centre that they have in the South, which happens to be Thiruvananthapuram. It makes absolutely no sense, no explanation has been given to anybody, least of all the students," Tharoor said.
Highlighting the impact of the decision, he pointed out that around 550 students appeared for the entrance test in Thiruvananthapuram last year. With the removal of the centre, he questioned the accessibility for this year’s aspirants.
"Where will this year's students go, unless JMI has decided that they don't want students from the South?" he remarked.
