Lucknow — Following the Supreme Court hearing on the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, a prominent member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), expressed optimism over the court’s handling of the matter, citing that the proceedings were headed in a “positive direction.”

Commenting on the developments, Maulana Rasheed stated, “All the proceedings in the court were very interesting and I think it was on a positive line. The court, in its observation, said that it would examine all the things in the light of the Constitution.”

The case challenges several aspects of the 2025 amendment, which has raised concerns among sections of the Muslim community regarding autonomy and management of Waqf properties. Maulana Rasheed emphasized the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom as central to the issue.

“After this observation, we are confident that the religious freedom guaranteed in the Constitution will be restored,” he added.

Crucially, the Supreme Court also stated that already notified Waqf properties should not be denotified — a statement that Maulana Rasheed welcomed. “This is a reassuring development. It indicates that the court is mindful of the sensitivity and legal protection of religious endowments,” he noted.
