New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday approved a proposal by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to allocate 18 land pockets in the Ridge area to the forest department for compensatory afforestation, terming it a step that will aid the fight against pollution in the national capital.
A bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul observed that the move would “benefit the city,” particularly as Delhi grapples with severe air pollution during the winter months.
The approval came during a hearing on issues related to environmental conservation and urban development in the capital. The court noted that the DDA’s proposal was a positive measure towards replenishing the city’s green cover and mitigating ecological loss caused by infrastructure expansion.
