Mumbai – As the United States’ 26 percent import duty on select goods comes into effect, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and senior leader Sanjay Raut has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he called a “mute” response to a serious economic development impacting Indian exports.
Raut drew parallels between Modi’s current silence and the former criticism Modi directed at then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “When Manmohan Singh was the PM, Modiji used to call him a mute PM. Now what has happened?” Raut asked. “India is not mute, the PM is mute,” he added, questioning the government’s inaction in the face of global trade shifts.
He further criticized India’s absence in ongoing global geopolitical discourse, especially as tensions rise between major powers. “Smaller countries are voicing their concerns in the world. Only PM Modi and India are silent. Singapore and China are talking about a possible World War—what are we doing?” Raut said, suggesting a lack of assertiveness in India’s foreign policy posture.
