Mumbai: In a significant political development, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has indicated that a thaw may be possible between Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray — but not without conditions. Raut highlighted a mutual willingness to reconcile, provided Raj distances himself from forces the UBT faction views as opposed to Maharashtra's interests.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Raut said, “Raj Thackeray has said that if there are any grudges between the two brothers, then I will keep my ego aside and remove them for the best interests of Maharashtra. On which Uddhav Thackeray has said that we are brothers and there are no grudges between us, and if there are any, I will remove them.”

However, Raut emphasized a critical condition laid down by Uddhav Thackeray: “You should not give place in your home to the enemy of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena (UBT)... If you agree on this, we will surely talk.”

The remark is a clear reference to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with which Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has shown alignment in recent years. Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, remains a vocal critic of the BJP, particularly after the 2019 split and the subsequent political realignment in Maharashtra.
