Delhi: Congress leader and candidate from New Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal to offer a 50% concession on Delhi Metro fares. Dikshit dismissed the move as a gimmick and accused AAP of making promises without financial backing.

Speaking to reporters, Dikshit remarked, "They (AAP) said this earlier also. Why don't they give 50% (concession) themselves? This has been an irresponsible government."

Dikshit questioned AAP’s intentions, suggesting that the party has a habit of blaming the central government instead of taking action. "If you want to do it, do it—whether or not the central government provides it. They want to show that they want to give but the Indian government is not cooperating," he said, alleging that AAP uses such narratives to deflect responsibility.

Dikshit further accused AAP of making false promises to the public. "They don’t have money. Then they will blame the central government for not letting them work. This has become their standard strategy," he added.

The proposal for a 50% metro fare concession has sparked a debate about its feasibility, with AAP positioning it as a pro-people initiative while opposition parties question its practicality and intent. The central government has yet to respond to AAP’s appeal for support in implementing the scheme.
