Puri: BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday led a ‘Unity March’ in Odisha as part of nationwide events commemorating Sardar @ 150, honouring India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Union Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Patra said the march, being conducted under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to reinforce the message of unity and self-reliance across the country.

Addressing supporters in Puri, he highlighted the significance of organising the march in Paika—the historic site of the 1817 Paika Rebellion led by Bakshi Jagabandhu, often regarded as one of the earliest uprisings against British rule. “We are doing this in Paika, the place where the very first rebellion started against the British in 1817,” Patra said. The 10-km march carries the slogan ‘Ek Bharat, Atmanirbhar Bharat’, reflecting the government’s emphasis on unity and self-sufficiency.

Patra also commented on the BJP-JD(U) alliance’s sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, calling it a decisive endorsement of PM Modi’s leadership. “It is the victory of PM Modi’s agenda of development and of the team of PM Modi and Nitish Kumar,” he said.

He asserted that the mandate demonstrated strong support from “poor women, youth and farmers,” adding that voters consistently stand with the Prime Minister. Patra further remarked that whenever Congress leader Rahul Gandhi uses “derogatory terms” for the Prime Minister, “he will have to face the consequences.”
