The Central Government has approved the allocation of a designated site within the Rashtriya Smriti complex, part of the Rajghat precinct in Delhi, for the construction of a Samadhi commemorating former President Pranab Mukherjee. This decision honors Mukherjee’s significant contributions to India’s political and public life.

The announcement was warmly received by Mukherjee’s family, with his daughter and author, Sharmistha Mukherjee, sharing her appreciation on social media. She tweeted, "Called on PM Narendra Modi ji to express thanks & gratitude from core of my heart for his govt's decision to create a memorial for baba. It’s more cherished considering that we didn’t ask for it. Immensely touched by this unexpected but truly gracious gesture by PM."

The Rashtriya Smriti complex is a dedicated space for memorials of India’s leaders, and the addition of Mukherjee’s Samadhi highlights his lasting legacy. Known as a statesman with a deep understanding of governance, Pranab Mukherjee served as India’s 13th President from 2012 to 2017 and held several key portfolios, including Finance, Defence, and External Affairs, during his distinguished political career.
