A controversy has emerged following the trailer launch of the upcoming film The Bengal Files, directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. The film has drawn objections from members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, leading to the filing of multiple FIRs against the makers.
Responding to the developments in Delhi, director Vivek Agnihotri said the film sought to portray what he described as an “untold story” and alleged that objections were politically motivated. He claimed that TMC members were opposing the film’s content, particularly references to “Hindu genocide,” and described the project as prophetic in nature. Agnihotri further alleged attempts of pressure and blackmail by political groups over its release.
Actress Pallavi Joshi, who stars in the film, expressed disappointment at the opposition to its screening. She said the project was rooted in artistic commitment and that the team only wanted the film to reach audiences. Joshi stated she was confident viewers across India would watch it despite the hurdles.
The film, which comes in the wake of Agnihotri’s earlier work The Kashmir Files, is already at the centre of a wider debate on the intersection of cinema, politics, and history.
