Chennai: Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, including Marina and Pattinapakkam beaches, are experiencing rough sea conditions as a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal intensifies. The India Meteorological Department (MeT) reported that the system is rapidly strengthening and moving towards the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The weather office has cautioned fishermen and coastal residents to remain alert as the deep depression is likely to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and turbulent seas in the coming days. The system is expected to make landfall or have its peak impact along the coasts shortly, prompting authorities to take preventive measures.

Local residents reported unusually high waves and strong gusts of wind along the beaches, with lifeguards and civic officials advising people to stay away from the shorelines. The MeT Department has issued warnings of potential flooding in low-lying coastal areas and urged authorities to ensure disaster preparedness.

State authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the State Disaster Management Authority to mitigate risks. Relief teams have been put on standby in vulnerable regions, and efforts are underway to disseminate information about safety measures to the public.

The intensification of the depression underscores the unpredictable and powerful nature of tropical systems in the Bay of Bengal during this season. Residents in affected areas are advised to follow official updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
