New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha has emphasised the need for a more positive and unifying approach while observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Speaking on the occasion, he reflected on the historical events of 1947, acknowledging the suffering experienced on both sides of the border during the partition of India and Pakistan.
According to Jha, India has undergone a process of healing over the decades, emerging as a stronger nation despite the painful legacy of the past. He suggested that official references to the day should employ language that fosters harmony and growth, rather than division. In particular, he expressed concern over the use of terms such as “Hatya Diwas” (Day of Massacre), advocating for more sensitive and forward-looking descriptions.
Highlighting the significance of the national flag as a unifying symbol, Jha noted that the spirit of the Tiranga should be preserved in both action and sentiment. His remarks underline a broader call for commemoration practices that not only remember the tragedies of history but also reinforce the ideals of unity, inclusivity, and mutual respect among citizens.
The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is marked annually to honour those who suffered and lost their lives during the mass displacement and violence of 1947.
