New Delhi | Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha, after meeting officials at the Election Commission of India, strongly criticized the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Jha claimed the revision exercise was being carried out with the hidden intent of excluding voters rather than ensuring fair and inclusive participation.
“We all have kept the worry of Bihar in front of them,” Jha told reporters. He also submitted a letter from senior RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, outlining the party's formal objections to the timing and nature of the electoral roll update.
“This is a conspiracy to evict people,” Jha alleged. “If the purpose of any exercise is exclusion instead of inclusion, then what can we say?” he questioned, expressing fears that large sections of marginalized and economically weaker communities might be unfairly removed from the voter list.
He also pointed out the unusual timing of the exercise. “They had no answer when we asked why this revision, which hasn’t been done in 22 years, is being conducted now?” he said. According to Jha, the documents required to prove voter eligibility are often unavailable to the people most at risk of being excluded.
