New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday criticised Opposition parties for disrupting proceedings during an occasion meant to felicitate astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla in Parliament.
Addressing a press conference, Rijiju said the disruption had prevented members from honouring Shukla, describing it as “very hurtful.” He remarked, “Opposition parties sabotaging discussion on astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla was very hurtful. They did not allow us to felicitate the pride of our nation.”
The minister, however, noted that the astronaut was formally congratulated by the government, the Speaker, and senior parliamentary leaders. Shukla also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the session.
Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently returned after his space mission, has been hailed across the country for his achievement. His planned felicitation in Parliament was expected to be a symbolic recognition of India’s progress in space exploration.
