Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju has responded to criticisms regarding delays in the formation of Parliamentary Standing Committees. In his statement, Rijiju emphasized that the timeline for these committees is consistent with historical patterns, noting that since 2004, they have typically been constituted by the end of September.
Rijiju addressed concerns raised by some MPs, asserting, “It is not proper to accuse that there is a delay in the constitution of Parliamentary Standing Committees.” He explained that the process of forming these committees is ongoing, and seats are being allocated to principal opposition parties and other political groups based on their strength.
The Minister also mentioned discussions with Congress and other major parties, indicating that a resolution is imminent. He urged all Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members to avoid making the issue a point of contention, reinforcing that the timeline for constituting the committees is well within expectations.
Rijiju's comments come amid ongoing debates about the pace of parliamentary processes, aiming to assure stakeholders of the government's commitment to timely and orderly conduct of legislative affairs.
