Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh – Hollywood actor and longtime Tibet supporter Richard Gere, during a visit to the Tibetan spiritual capital of Dharamshala, reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to the Tibetan cause. Speaking to a gathering of Tibetan supporters and media, Gere shared a deeply personal moment with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama that continues to guide his activism.

“Once I went to the Dalai Lama when I was feeling very tired,” Gere said. “I asked His Holiness, ‘Can I stop now?’ He said, ‘Yes, you can stop when I stop—which is never.’”

Gere, a devout Buddhist and vocal critic of China’s policies in Tibet, said the Dalai Lama’s words made it clear that the struggle for Tibet’s identity, culture, and freedom is not confined to a single lifetime. “This is not a commitment for one lifetime,” he said. “This is many lifetimes of commitment—not just for Tibet, but for the people of Tibet, who have been highly abused for many decades by the Chinese Communist Party.”
