Joshimath, Uttarakhand: A massive avalanche struck the Mana region near Joshimath, leaving several people trapped under snow and debris. Rescue teams have successfully evacuated 50 out of the 55 individuals affected, with ongoing efforts to locate the remaining five, according to Chamoli District Magistrate (DM) Sandeep Tiwari.
Of the rescued individuals, 24 have been brought to Joshimath for treatment, while one person with a spinal injury was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for advanced medical care. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring prompt medical attention for the injured.
Search and rescue operations, involving local administration, disaster response teams, and the Indian Army, are continuing despite harsh weather conditions. Officials have urged people to remain cautious in high-altitude areas prone to avalanches during winter months.
