New Delhi — Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Thursday took strong exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement promising to raze the hideout of the mastermind behind terrorism, calling it an attempt to politicize a collective national effort.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s bold assertion, Chowdhury questioned the personalization of national security efforts. “How can this be your promise alone? Were you aware of the Pahalgam attack beforehand?” she asked, referencing the recent terror incident that reignited debate over India's counter-terrorism strategy.

Chowdhury emphasized that the real credit for India’s response to terrorism belongs to the armed forces and the resilience of its citizens, especially those living in volatile border regions. “It is our armed forces who have given a fitting response—give them the credit. It is the citizens who continue to live in border areas despite constant threats—salute them,” she said.

Calling for national unity over individual political rhetoric, she added, “There are people who have stood firm in the face of fear. This is not a single man's achievement. It is the collective achievement of every Indian. Please, do not take individual credit for political gain.”
