Delhi: Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad launched an attack on the Opposition, questioning the purpose of its ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ and criticising its approach to electoral reforms. He alleged that the Opposition had failed to clarify its position on issues such as duplicate entries, deceased voters, and alleged infiltrators in the electoral rolls.
In his remarks, Prasad also singled out Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, recalling previous controversies such as the Pegasus surveillance matter and the Rafale fighter jet deal, arguing that the Congress leadership had been discredited in both instances. He claimed that Gandhi’s stance on these issues, along with his conduct in Parliament, had weakened public trust.
Addressing a separate matter, Prasad endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement on the Indus Waters Treaty. He said the agreement, signed in 1960, was finalised without cabinet approval or detailed parliamentary debate during Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure. He also referred to India’s financial commitments under the treaty, arguing that they placed an additional burden on the country.
