New Delhi—Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has defended Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi’s recent remarks, stating that Sitharaman had presented the economic reality with concrete data.
“Nirmala Sitharaman presented the reality in front of the nation. She pointed out that the Indian economy has improved in the last 10 years,” Athawale said, highlighting the achievements of the Modi-led government. He further asserted that India’s economic standing has significantly strengthened, with the country now positioned as the fifth-largest economy in the world.
Addressing opposition claims that non-BJP states were not receiving adequate financial support, Athawale dismissed the allegations, stating that Sitharaman had presented clear data showing that every state, irrespective of political leadership, had benefitted from central policies and financial allocations.
The exchange comes amid ongoing debates over economic policies and fiscal distribution, with the opposition criticizing the government’s handling of economic disparity. However, BJP leaders continue to emphasize India’s growth trajectory and increasing global economic influence.
