The Rajya Sabha on Thursday observed a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of the security personnel who lost their lives defending the Parliament during the deadly terror attack of December 13, 2001. The tribute came a day ahead of the 24th anniversary of the assault, which remains one of the most significant attacks on India’s democratic institutions.
Presiding over the Upper House, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan reflected on the tragedy, describing the Parliament as the “very symbol of our democracy” that had come under direct threat. He recalled the bravery displayed by the security forces on that day, whose swift and decisive action prevented far greater devastation.
“Tomorrow marks the 24th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attack on Parliament,” Radhakrishnan said. “On that dark day, when the very symbol of our democracy, the Bharatiya Sansad, was targeted, it was the fearless courage and prompt action of our valiant security personnel that foiled the sinister design.”
