Defence Minister Rajnath Singh participated in a statue unveiling ceremony in Lucknow on April 21, honoring the legacy of Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, a prominent figure in India’s sanitation and cleanliness movement.
Speaking at the event, Singh praised Dr. Pathak for his lifelong dedication to improving public hygiene and sanitation. “Dr. Pathak was not just a person, but a movement. He was a visionary social entrepreneur who gave a new direction to India’s cleanliness landscape,” Singh remarked.
Dr. Pathak, founder of the Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, revolutionized India’s approach to sanitation and the treatment of waste, especially in rural and underdeveloped areas. His work, which also focused on the eradication of manual scavenging, earned him recognition as both a social worker and a social entrepreneur.
Singh went on to commend Dr. Pathak for his relentless pursuit of social change, noting that his contributions have had a lasting impact on both urban and rural India. The statue in Lucknow now stands as a tribute to his vision and tireless efforts toward a cleaner, more dignified society.
