New Delhi: Congress MP Rajeev Shukla on Monday condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Mahagathbandhan, calling the comments “inappropriate” and unbecoming of political discourse in Bihar ahead of the state elections.
“I think there should be some restraint in language somewhere. The kind of language used in Bihar is not appropriate for the Bihar elections,” Shukla said, addressing reporters in Delhi.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s statement linking the Congress to violence, Shukla said such allegations were deeply disrespectful to the party’s legacy. “To say that Congress promotes guns and to use such words when Congress leaders have done so much for the country—this is not right,” he remarked.
He invoked the contributions of India’s freedom leaders and former Prime Ministers, saying, “They fought in the battle for the country's independence, and so many sacrifices were made. Did Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, or Sardar Patel keep guns? Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi gave their lives for the nation. They did so much work for the country—it does not behove us to use such language for them.”
