New Delhi: BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for skipping the oath-taking ceremony of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, calling it a breach of constitutional propriety. The ceremony, attended by senior ministers, judges, and dignitaries, marked a significant moment for the judiciary, but Gandhi’s absence drew sharp attacks from the BJP.
Speaking to reporters, Hussain said Rahul Gandhi, as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, holds a Cabinet rank and a constitutional position that requires him to uphold institutional dignity and fulfil associated responsibilities. “Rahul Gandhi is breaking the constitutional dignity. He holds a Cabinet rank and a constitutional post but is not fulfilling the responsibilities of the LoP,” he stated.
Hussain further argued that if Gandhi is unable or unwilling to meet the expectations of the office, the Congress party should consider appointing another leader. “If he cannot fulfil his duties, there are many leaders in Congress capable of being the LoP,” he added.
