Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the names of nearly 65 lakh people, primarily from poor and socially weaker sections, have been deleted from Bihar’s electoral rolls.
Addressing a public gathering, Gandhi said the removal of such a large number of voters raises serious concerns about fairness in the democratic process. “The names of 65 lakh poor people, who belong to weaker sections of society, have been deleted from the electoral rolls in Bihar,” he stated.
While Gandhi did not provide specific evidence during his address, he emphasized that the issue would be raised strongly by his party. He argued that voter disenfranchisement of such a scale could directly impact the participation of marginalized communities in the electoral process.
