Chandigarh: In a crucial meeting addressing ongoing farmers’ concerns, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that state representatives would meet the Union Minister today to push for solutions. The meeting will also be attended by Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchakk, representing the Punjab government.

“The farmer leaders of Punjab are going to meet the Union Minister today, and on behalf of the Punjab government, we will be attending the meeting to put forth the issues of the farmers,” said Cheema. Expressing hope for a resolution, he added, “I hope some solutions can be reached today… The roadmap for the farmers' issue needs to be brought in by the Central government.”

The meeting comes amid rising tensions over demands for better crop prices, loan waivers, and policy support. Farmer unions have been pressing for the fulfillment of promises made during previous negotiations with the government. Punjab, being an agrarian state, has witnessed repeated protests on issues like Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees, compensation for crop losses, and input cost subsidies.
