Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced special honours for the Punjabi players and coaching staff of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team following their historic ICC World Cup victory. At a ceremony held in the newly built Mullanpur stadium, the state government recognised the achievements of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Harleen Kaur Deol, and the team’s coaching staff.

Mann said the state was proud to celebrate the athletes’ global success. “Each of these Punjabi players were awarded ₹11 lakh, while the coaching staff received ₹5 lakh as a token of appreciation,” the Chief Minister posted, noting that their performance had inspired millions across the country.

The event also saw the inauguration of stadium stands named in honour of two icons—former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and current women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The tribute marks the state’s growing recognition of sporting excellence and its commitment to supporting athletes who bring international acclaim.

“As a sports enthusiast, it was a moment of immense pride to felicitate these athletes and the coaches,” Mann said, extending his best wishes to the entire contingent. He expressed hope that the players would continue to excel and “bring glory to India and Punjab through their dedication and hard work.”
