Chandigarh: Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh emphasized the need for justice in the Kolkata RG Kar hospital rape-murder case, calling for the accused to be sentenced to death. Addressing a meeting of medical professional bodies, Singh urged both the central and state governments to announce a ₹5 crore ex-gratia for the victim's family. He also demanded the introduction of a 'Prevention of Violence Against Medical Personnel' law, suggesting that the Prime Minister should convene a meeting to ensure the law is passed in the next parliamentary session.
Additionally, Singh announced that enhanced security measures, including CCTV installations, will be implemented across Punjab within 48 hours.
