Chandigarh – Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh has reiterated the state government's commitment to eradicating drug abuse, warning of strict measures, including property seizures and harsh penalties for offenders.

“Our government has zero tolerance against drug abuse, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty, including property seizure,” Singh stated. He also emphasized that government officials found complicit, such as drug inspectors, would face double punishment.

Highlighting the severe health risks associated with drug injection, Singh warned of HIV transmission and fatal overdoses. The state’s anti-drug strategy focuses on four key pillars: strict enforcement, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and employment opportunities for recovered individuals.

Singh further announced intensified monitoring of de-addiction centers, ensuring their effectiveness. “Those not working properly will be investigated first, and if they fail to serve their purpose, their licenses will be canceled,” he added.
