Chandigarh witnessed a powerful message of reform as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed a large gathering at the ‘Walk for Drug-Free Chandigarh’ event, urging the youth to turn away from drug culture and instead embrace positive, inspiring role models.

“Today I can see a revolution against drugs in Chandigarh,” Mann said, hailing the turnout and enthusiasm of participants as a sign of growing public resolve. Stressing the need for responsible influence, he cautioned young people against idolizing celebrities who promote substance abuse. “Don't make the singers who sing songs promoting drugs your role model. If you want a role model, let it be Milkha Singh or Harmanpreet Singh,” he advised, referring to India’s sporting legends.

Reflecting on Punjab’s proud legacy, Mann reminded the audience that the state is renowned for its contributions to the armed forces, sports like wrestling and kabaddi, and cultural expressions like bhangra. “People of Punjab are famous for joining the army, for wrestling, for kabaddi, and bhangra. But our fame has faded,” he noted with concern.

Using a striking metaphor, the Chief Minister said, “If the stone in a ring gets faded, then the ring's value diminishes.” He concluded by saying, “If Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh shine, the whole country will shine,” reinforcing the idea that regional pride and national progress go hand in hand.
