Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced the formation of a high-powered committee to supervise relief and rescue operations in districts affected by floods. The move comes amid heavy rainfall and rising water levels that have disrupted normal life in several parts of the state.

The panel, comprising three senior state officers, has been tasked with coordinating efforts across departments, ensuring timely rescue operations, and facilitating relief measures for affected families. Officials said the committee will also monitor the supply of essential items such as food, drinking water, medicines, and temporary shelter facilities for those displaced by the floods.

Mann said the step was aimed at ensuring a prompt, structured, and efficient response to the crisis. “The safety and well-being of our people is our top priority. This committee will ensure that all relief and rescue operations are carried out without delay and with proper coordination,” the Chief Minister stated.

Punjab has witnessed widespread flooding in recent weeks due to heavy monsoon rains, leading to damage in low-lying areas, displacement of families, and disruption of agricultural activities. The state government has been working with district administrations and disaster management teams to assess the situation and provide assistance.
