HYDERABAD | Priyanka Kakkar, recently appointed as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Telangana in-charge, on Saturday took a sharp dig at the Telangana government over what she termed as inadequate attention to education and healthcare sectors. Speaking to PTI after her appointment, Kakkar compared the budgetary allocations of the Telangana government with that of Delhi, presenting the AAP-led Delhi governance model as a benchmark for effective public welfare policies.
“Our primary focus has always been on education and health. The deplorable condition of government schools in Telangana is evident to all. Despite this, the state government allocated only 7.8% of its budget to education and a mere 4% to health,” Kakkar said. She contrasted this with the AAP government’s allocations in Delhi, where 25% of the budget is earmarked for education and 15% for health.
Kakkar further commented on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s approach, suggesting that he should seek guidance from Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal if he is struggling to prioritize public welfare schemes. “If Revanth Reddy is unsure about what to do, he should call Arvind Kejriwal and get an idea on how governance should be done in these crucial sectors,” she remarked.
AAP’s entry into Telangana politics comes at a time when public discourse is increasingly focusing on issues of basic services like education, health, and infrastructure. Kakkar’s remarks signal AAP’s intent to challenge the existing governance narratives by leveraging its Delhi model of “governance through public service delivery”.
