BENGALURU — Karnataka Minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge on Tuesday called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to respond to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s concerns over alleged irregularities in voter lists, accusing the poll body of acting “arbitrarily” and lacking transparency.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge said, “The Election Commission must respond to the valid questions raised by Mr. Gandhi instead of acting arbitrarily. Across the country, we’ve highlighted serious issues with unhygienic voter lists, yet the ECI has remained silent.”
He further alleged that the Commission’s recent actions, particularly in Bihar, have “created more confusion than clarity” ahead of the Assembly elections.
Kharge also cited remarks made by BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, who have claimed that voter lists contain names of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. “When the BJP’s own top leaders make such statements, it becomes even more crucial for the ECI to ensure transparency and conduct truly free and fair elections,” he added.
