Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge has hit back at critics following Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw’s recent remarks on the state of Bengaluru’s infrastructure. Defending the government’s ongoing efforts, Kharge outlined key development projects underway across the city and called on BJP leaders to push for more central assistance instead of levelling allegations.
“We are building ₹40,000 crore worth of North-South and East-West corridor tunnels. We are bringing in 26 km of suburban rail and have completed 42 km of double-decker flyovers, in addition to metro expansion,” Kharge said. “We are working aggressively. But instead of saying ‘nothing is happening,’ BJP MPs should ask for funds from Nirmala Sitharaman.”
Kharge also drew attention to Bengaluru’s economic significance, noting its substantial contribution to India’s export economy. “My export contribution is ₹4.5 lakh crore, not a single rupee comes back to the state. Let them amend the rules and bring that money back,” he added.
