President Appoints Justice V Ramasubramanian as NHRC Chairperson

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice V Ramasubramanian (Retd) as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India. The announcement comes as part of the government's efforts to bolster the nation's human rights framework.

Alongside Justice Ramasubramanian, Priyank Kanoongo and Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi (Retd) have been appointed as members of the commission. Their diverse expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the NHRC's mission of promoting and protecting human rights across the country.

Justice V Ramasubramanian, known for his distinguished judicial career, has served as a judge in the Supreme Court of India. His vast legal experience is anticipated to enhance the commission's capabilities in addressing complex human rights issues.

Priyank Kanoongo, who has been actively involved in child rights advocacy, brings his rich experience to the table. Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi (Retd), a veteran in legal and judicial affairs, adds further depth to the commission's leadership.

The NHRC plays a pivotal role in investigating human rights violations, recommending policy reforms, and spreading awareness about fundamental rights. These new appointments are expected to reinvigorate the commission's efforts to ensure justice and equity for all citizens.
