Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: As water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers continue to surge, the Prayagraj district administration has launched a full-scale emergency preparedness operation to prevent loss of life and minimize flood damage in the region.
District Magistrate Ravindra Mandar, addressing the media, stated, “A detailed review has been done. 88 flood chowkis have been built, and 47 villages have been identified as sensitive.” He emphasized that both riverine behavior and low-lying zones have been carefully assessed based on historical flooding patterns.
Authorities have mobilized critical response units, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) now positioned in flood-prone areas. “Traditionally, we have deployed our teams where there are inundated areas,” the DM noted, adding that “detailed training has been conducted and mock drills have been completed for all our revenue and other stakeholder departments.”
The administration has also prepared for large-scale evacuations, if needed. “Refugee shelters will be activated, and directions have been given to all SDMs to ensure readiness,” he said. The shelters are expected to be equipped with food, clean water, and medical care, especially in case families are forced to relocate from submerged areas.
Mandar assured residents that every possible precaution is being taken. “We are fully prepared so that there will be no loss of lives,” he asserted. “We are cautious that there should be no disturbance during the flood.”
