New Delhi, June 24 — Amid international attention on the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and a reported ceasefire proposal by U.S. President Joe Biden, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has offered a cautious response, welcoming the move towards peace while raising sharp concerns over U.S. conduct and India’s diplomatic approach.

Speaking to the media, Tiwari said, “India has always been an advocate of peace and harmony and stands against war. We welcome the ceasefire announcement—but let’s be clear on who announced it. America has crossed an international border, violated international law and the United Nations Charter.”

The Congress Rajya Sabha MP took aim at the Indian government’s response, questioning why Prime Minister Modi has been engaging only with Israel and not the United States, the country accused of initiating the current crisis by bombing Iranian nuclear sites. “Our PM is talking to the nation which has been attacked, but he is not talking to America,” Tiwari remarked.

He also noted that Iran has not officially accepted the ceasefire, and stressed that any peace deal must also be just. “We favour peace, but justice is bigger than peace. We want justice,” he added.
