Delhi: The government's proposal for a 'One Nation, One Election' bill has come under sharp criticism from Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, who termed it a move toward centralization of power. Speaking to the media, Tiwari accused the government of not seeking consensus on such a transformative measure and alleged that it was attempting to sideline pressing issues like inflation and unemployment.

"Such an important bill which they want to bring for a transformation, but the government is not ready to leave its dictatorship," Tiwari remarked, emphasizing the need for an all-party meeting to discuss the implications of the proposal.

Raising concerns over the intent behind the bill, Tiwari warned that it could lead to a dangerous consolidation of power. "Today, it is 'One Nation, One Election,' then it would be 'One Nation, One Party,' and then it would be 'One Nation, One Leader.' We will not let their intentions succeed," he asserted.

Tiwari also highlighted the constitutional challenges posed by the bill, noting the difficulty of securing a two-thirds majority for the required amendments. "They need to amend the Constitution, from where will they get a 2/3rd majority?" he questioned, suggesting the proposal lacked the necessary political support.

Calling the initiative a diversion, Tiwari said, "This is just a distraction from real issues like inflation, unemployment, and economic distress. The government is using such proposals to shift the focus away from their failures."
