Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has come to the defense of Rahul Gandhi following his controversial remarks in Boston about India's democratic institutions, particularly the Election Commission. Tiwari dismissed criticism from the BJP, asserting that Gandhi’s statements were rooted in facts that needed to be addressed.
In a statement, Tiwari asked, “Why does the BJP not improve itself or the Election Commission?” He emphasized that the facts presented by Gandhi during his speech were not new or unknown, even internationally. “Rahul Gandhi has given facts in what he said during his study speech, but are these facts not known in America?” he questioned.
Tiwari further underscored the importance of an impartial and independent Election Commission, highlighting the vital role it plays in safeguarding democracy. “How will democracy survive until the Election Commission of this country is impartial, independent or free from any pressure?” he asked, suggesting that the integrity of democratic processes was at stake if the Election Commission was not truly free from external influence.
