New Delhi: Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over former US President Donald Trump’s past claims regarding India-Pakistan ceasefires and trade tariffs.
Tiwari said Trump has repeatedly asserted that he played a role in ceasefire agreements between the two neighbours, but his latest remarks suggest that he warned both countries to comply or face punitive tariffs. “I’ve been keeping track of how many times US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He has repeated this claim multiple times. But this time, Trump has openly stated that he warned both India and Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire, or he would impose heavy tariffs,” the Congress leader said.
According to Tiwari, these tariffs have adversely impacted India’s economy, contradicting the government’s narrative of strong diplomatic ties. “Now, those tariffs are having a negative impact on the Indian economy. Prime Minister Modi proudly showcased his friendship with President Trump, and today, it seems that ordinary Indians are having to pay the price for it,” he added.
