Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has voiced strong confidence in the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, predicting that the INDIA alliance will win all nine contested seats. Tiwari emphasized that candidates contesting under the Samajwadi Party (SP) symbol are receiving robust public support across the state.
"I firmly believe the INDIA alliance will win all the 9 seats. Our candidates contesting on the Samajwadi Party symbol are getting full support from the public. I would request the Election Commission to ensure that the elections are held fairly," Tiwari stated.
In response to comments made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Tiwari drew parallels between the BJP's political approach and the colonial "divide and rule" strategy used by the East India Company. He reminded that it was the Congress Party that gave the slogan of "Purna Swaraj," advocating for India's complete independence.
"The East India Company enslaved us by following the principle of divide and rule. It was the Congress Party that gave the slogan of 'Purna Swaraj.' Today, BJP is following the same divide and rule strategy, spreading hatred and division," Tiwari added.
The remarks reflect a broader political contention between the Congress and the BJP, with each party framing the upcoming elections as a crucial test for their respective ideologies and support.
