Delhi: Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Wednesday commended Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his recent tweet regarding US President Donald Trump’s remarks on Russian oil, asserting that Gandhi acted as a responsible and patriotic leader.

“Today, Rahul Gandhi did what was expected of him, being the grandson of Indira Gandhi and the son of Rajiv Gandhi. As a true patriot, he fulfilled the responsibility of a leader,” Tiwari said.

The MP questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter, highlighting India’s right to decide its own energy policy. “India will decide who will provide cheap crude oil and facilitate cheap trade, which has been claimed to be beneficial for India. Or will Trump make a decision and PM Modi stay silent?” Tiwari asked.

He added, “The President of America is saying that PM Modi has assured Trump that India will no longer buy crude oil from Russia. Is PM Modi more responsible towards the Parliament of this country or towards Trump?”
