New Delhi: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has taken aim at Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over his recent statements regarding the Election Commission (EC) and the accuracy of the electoral rolls.
Joshi pointed to past election results to question what he described as an inconsistent stance. He said that when the BJP lost the Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra and the opposition won, there were no allegations against the EC. Similarly, in 2023, when the Congress secured victory in Karnataka, no concerns were raised. However, after the BJP’s win in 2024, Joshi noted, questions were being asked about the credibility of the electoral process, citing alleged voter list deletions and issues with electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The minister argued that such selective criticism undermines the consistency and credibility of the allegations. According to him, acceptance of favourable results alongside rejection of unfavourable ones suggests a politically motivated approach rather than a principled stand on electoral integrity.
