Delhi: BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Thursday launched a sharp attack on senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing them of repeatedly undermining key democratic institutions in the country.

Responding to recent remarks made by the two leaders, Poonawalla alleged that their statements reflect a deeper pattern within the Congress party. “First, Rahul Gandhi says that he will destroy the Election Commission with an atom bomb, so Revanth Reddy, why am I behind?” he said, suggesting a competitive approach within the party to undermine institutions.

“One has insulted a constitutional institution, and the other person is insulting the fourth pillar of democracy,” he added, referring to recent comments by Reddy perceived as critical of the media.

Poonawalla further pointed to an earlier statement by Revanth Reddy, where the latter allegedly said he would “beat” those unfamiliar with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. “The DNA of Emergency is not only in Rahul Gandhi; it is in his whole party,” Poonawalla remarked, accusing the Congress of carrying forward a legacy of authoritarianism dating back to the Emergency of 1975–77.
