Mumbai: Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday strongly criticised the Congress party’s handling of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, while praising the Modi government for securing the extradition of accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana from the United States.
Speaking near the iconic Taj Hotel—one of the main sites targeted during the 2008 attacks—Goyal said, “Under the Congress, the hotel where we are standing right now was attacked by terrorists. People lost their lives, but the then Congress government did nothing and even fed biryani to Ajmal Kasab.”
Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is accused of helping co-conspirator David Headley in scouting locations and facilitating logistics for the 26/11 attacks that left over 170 people dead and hundreds injured.
Calling it a moment of justice for the nation, Goyal added, “It is PM Modi's sankalp (resolve) to punish those who attacked the country. And the entire country, especially the Mumbaikars, are proud that those who attacked our country are being extradited to India and will be punished as per the Indian law.”
