Chennai: Union Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the 55th-anniversary event of Thuglak magazine in Chennai, where he highlighted India’s economic transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Criticizing the previous UPA government’s economic performance, Goyal stated, “In 2014, P Chidambaram, in his budget speech, acknowledged that the Indian economy was challenged. They narrated a robust economy but left behind a struggling one.”

He pointed out that during the UPA’s decade-long rule, India’s GDP ranking improved marginally from 12th to 11th globally. “In 10 years, they could only take India from the 12th largest GDP to the 11th largest GDP,” he remarked.
In contrast, Goyal lauded PM Modi's government for its economic achievements over the past decade. “What did PM Modi do in 10 years? He took India from being the 11th largest GDP to the 5th largest GDP,” he said, underscoring the accelerated growth trajectory.
